Lecture in Komi National Gymnasium

On September 20, the methodists of the Center “Nasledie” after Pitirim Sorokin conducted a lecture on the topic “Life and creative work of Kallistrat Zhakov” in the Komi National Gymnasium. The listeners were pupils of two 10th grades.

Where is Kallistrat Zhakov from? Why was he compared with Leonardo da Vinci and Mikhail Lomonosov? Where in Syktyvkar can you see the building where the future writer studied? As a teacher, ethnographer and philosopher, Kallistrat Zhakov almost became a priest? These and many other questions related to the life and creative work of their fellow countryman learned by the tenth-grade pupils.

As an illustration to the lesson, schoolchildren watched a cartoon based on the fairy tale by K. Zhakov “Gulen in the Sky”. The children discussed with lecturer what is the use of fairytales for the younger generation, learned the opinion of Zhakov himself, who, by the way, was compared with the author of “Gulliver's Travels” by Jonathan Swift in writing fairy tales.

At the end of the class, the methodists of the Center told pupils that on the site of the Center “Nasledie” it is possible to get acquainted with the biography of the well-known fellow countrymen K. Zhakov and P. Sorokin closer, and invited the children to take part in the Republican contest of research works on the topic “Komi region in the fate and works of Pitirim Sorokin”, organized by the Center “Nasledie”.
