Lectures for pupils of school № 3

On October 8, in the school № 3 (Syktyvkar), the methodists of the Center “Nasledie” after Pitirim Sorokin gave two lectures about famous scientists, well-known people from the Komi Region – Pitirim Alexandrovich Sorokin and Kallistrat Falaleevich Zhakov for two 9th grades.

At the first lecture, pupils of the 9th grade got acquainted in detail with the biography of the outstanding Russian-American sociologist Pitirim Alexandrovich Sorokin, whose childhood and student years were spent in Russia. The children learned in what conditions the future scientist was born and grew up and how this was subsequently influenced on his creative work. The schoolchildren listened with interest, what role did the revolution of 1917 play in the fate of Pitirim Sorokin, and why did the young scientist have to leave Soviet Russia.

At the second lecture, the pupils of 9th grade got acquainted with the biography of another well-known scientist, ethnographer and writer – Kallistrat Falaleevich Zhakov. The children found out why K. Zhakov was compared with such famous scientists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Mikhail Lomonosov. The pupils of the 9th grade learned why Kallistrat had to leave parents’ home at a young age and what obstacles the future writer had to overcome on the way to gaining new knowledge. The children got acquainted in detail with the creative work of the outstanding writer, whose fairy-tales were very popular abroad. As an illustration, the schoolchildren watched a cartoon based on fairy-tale by K. Zhakov “Gulen in the sky”.
