On the November 21, the first-year students of the Syktyvkar Humanitarian Pedagogical College named after I.A. Kuratov listened to two lectures on the biography and scientific work of our famous countryman, Pitirim Alexandrovich Sorokin.
At the first lecture, the methodist of the Center “Nasledie” told the students about the places where the future scientist spent his childhood. The first-year students learned why Pitirim Sorokin was forced to leave his parental home early and how the career of the future scientist began. The students listened with interest how the revolutionary events of 1917 were reflected in his fate and scientific work.
At the second lecture, the students got acquainted with the theory of social mobility in detail, the founder of which was Pitirim Sorokin. The first-year students learned with such terms as social space, social lift, horizontal and vertical mobility. Having studied the basic terms, the first-year students completed a practical task to consolidate the material covered.
At the end of the lecture, the lecturer invited students to take part in the Republican contest of research works on the topic “Komi region in the fate and works of Pitirim Sorokin” (http://rksorokinctr.org/index.php/component/content/article/14-125--/302--l-r.html).
