On November 29, 2018, a regular meeting at the Center “Nasledie” after Pitirim Sorokin took place. The students of the Syktyvkar State University after Pitirim Sorokin and the Syktyvkar Forest Institute discussed on an international topic “Will the migration crisis lead to a split of the European Union?”
The first word was made by the team of the Institute of Culture and Art of the Syktyvkar State University after Pitirim Sorokin - Tereshchuk Angelina and Umantsev Alexey. The team defended the position “The migration crisis will not lead to a split of the European Union”. The second-year students of the Institute of Culture and Art assured those present that the European Union was already carrying out active measures to stabilize migration flows and these measures are bearing fruit.
Their opponents, students of the Syktyvkar Forest Institute Gaulika Vladislav and Parshukov Alexey, with the help of the slides, presented to the audience the whole chain of causes and consequences of migration flows. The students told the audience that there are no countries left in the European Union ready to continue the policy of open borders and that a united Europe does not currently have a common decision on how to regulate migration policy.
As a result, with a margin of 7 points (75:68), the students of the Institute of Culture and Art of the Syktyvkar State University after Pitirim Sorokin won.
We are going for a winter break, the next time our debating club will open its doors in March 2019!
