On January 23 (February 4), was born the famous sociologist, Pitirim Sorokin. This event was timed to the meeting of the methodists of the Center “Nasledie” and pupils of the 10th grade of the secondary school No. 12 of Syktyvkar.
The meeting was organized by the Central City Library, on the site of which a memorable exhibition, devoted to the scientist, was prepared.
The schoolchildren, together with a lecturer, plunged into the life of the Komi region of the beginning of the XXth century. The children learned how Pitirim Sorokin began his career and that at the age of ten he was forced to make his living on his own. Also they learned about the life of Pitirim Sorokin after emigration – how he ended up in the USA, why his lectures on the Russian revolution were so valuable, and how the fate of the sociologist was outside of his homeland.
