Center “Nasledie” gathered scientists, who studied the creative work of Pitirim Sorokin, at the traditional Sorokin Readings

February 4 marks the 130th anniversary of the birth of Pitirim Sorokin, a world-famous scientist and sociologist, author of the theory of social mobility, and founder of the sociological department at the Harvard University. On the eve of this event, on February 1, the Center “Nasledie” organized a traditional Round table, which brought together scientists and public figures, who studied scientific and creative heritage of our countrymen. This year the meeting was called «Pitirim Sorokin – a scientist and “a prophet of modernity”».



Opening the meeting, the director of the Center O.Y. Kuzivanova stressed that the broad theme of the life and creative work of Pitirim Sorokin unites many people – in the Small Hall of the House of Friendship of Peoples, where the meeting, scientists, government and public figures, and journalists gathered.



Welcoming speech was made by the Member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation V.P. Markov, who was at the origin of the Center “Nasledie”.



The Minister of the National Policy of the Republic of Komi G.I. Gabusheva informed those present that at the level of the Government of the Republic of Komi a working group was created to prepare and conduct anniversary events.



The Acting Rector of the Syktyvkar State University after Pitirim Sorokin O.A. Sotnikova said that the university will take part in anniversary events throughout the year.



The scientists and specialists in the biography and scientific heritage of sociologist discussed the views of Pitirim Sorokin on the problems of our time, which remain relevant today.


 

 

 

 

 


At the end of the meeting, the director of the Center thanked the participants for the interesting discussion and informed that at the international conference, which will be the culmination of events to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the scientist, guests from abroad are expected to tell how Sorokin's heritage is perceived and studied in other countries.
